N2 - Numerous studies confirm a connection between the metabolism of Cholesterol of the brain and the pathogenesis of the Alzheimer dementia (AD). It seems like a special role comes up to the ABCA1 transporter. In the context of our study we examined the expression of the ABCA1-Transporter at 79 brain samples of nondemented test persons and correlated this with factors, which are to play a role in the pathogenesis of the AD: Age, gender, numbers of plaques, ApoE Genotype, in particular the ApoE4-Allele, P-Glycoprotein as well as Abeta1-40 and Abeta1-42. We seperatly examinend Hippocampus, brain medulla, Cortex and Leptomeninx. By comparing the age groups of the 55-64 and the 65-74 years old test persons we detected a significant decreased expression of ABCA1 in the Leptomeninx in higher age. Further it could be shown for the cortex that carriers of the ApoE 2/4-Genotype express significantly less ABCA1 carriers compared to the ApoE 3/3 and of ApoE 4/4 allele. Also it could be shown for the Leptomeninx that a significant connection exists between the deposit of Abeta1-42 in the vessels and the expression of ABCA1 transporter in the vessels.
