  abstract  = {The aim of the present dissertation was to investigate the biological and chemical potential of two European mushroom species: Fomitopsis betulina and Calvatia gigantea. For this purpose, different extracts of both fungi were tested for: antimicrobial, antifungal, cytotoxic, in vitro wound healing, and anti-adhesive properties. Bioassay-guided fractionation led to the isolation of bioactive compounds, altogether 20 compounds were isolated and identified. The compounds were obtained from the ethyl acetate extracts, they included triterpenes, sterols and aromatic compounds. The separated substances from both fungi were proved for biological activities, some of them showed antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities.},
