  • In the Literature exist Gaps in the Knowledge about the Morphology and the Growth of the nasal Cavity of Primates, in particular from Pan troglodytes. In this Work became on the Basis of 46 chimpanzee Skulls both of sex in three different geriatric Degrees the postnatal Growth and the Morphology of the nasal Cavity of Pan troglodytes, examined taking into Account the sexual Dimorphism. In Addition, the postnatal nasal cavity Growth of the Chimpanzees was compared to the other Primate. To the Representation of the nasal cavity Morphology computed tomographic Images were made by all Skulls. To take into Account the rhomboiden nasal cavity Form, became, based on the single coronary Layer series, with the help of the Winsurf® - Software, 3D-Reconstructions of the nasal Cavities made and their Volumes calculated. In Addition, became different length Measures, wide Measures and height Measures in the Skull, including the nasal Cavity had examined and the nasal Septum for the presentation of a Deviance. Pan troglodytes shows with all examined Animals and in all age Groups a rhomboide Form of the Cavitas nasi. These remarkable Shape constancy of the nasal cavity Morphology also appears in Case of the Consideration after dorsal higher and narrow growing nasal cavity Form. Beside a mostly symmetrical nasal Septum are found on the lateral nasal Wall in each case bony to supported nasal Mussels (Concha nasalis superior, media, inferior). The postnatal Change of the nasal cavity Form was quantified on the Basis of Indexes. Pan Troglodytes hows a wide and high nasal Cavity. Because the biological age of the animals was not known at the time of her Death, the Description of the Growth Processes of the nasal Cavity and the Skull occurred by means of an easy linear Regression analysis and as a Relation measure whole Skull length as well as the facial Skull length were chosen. It could be shown that the biggest Increase of the volume lies with both Genders by the end of the Growth. A sexual Dimorphism with the Growth behaviour of the nasal Cavities could not be ascertained. The Representation of sign connections between the nasal cavity Volume and the cranial Morphology occurred by means of a correlation analysis. A significant Connection could be proved by an easy linear Regression Analysis between the nasal cavity Volume and the length Masses, wide Masses and height Masses of the facial Skull. The statistical Investigation of the nasal cavity Growth proved no significant Difference in the Increase of the regression straight Line for male and female Animals. A sexual Dimorphism cannot be proved statistically also for other medium face Mass. The postnatal Growth of the nasal Cavity of Pan troglodytes was compared, finally, to that of the Orang-Utan and the Japanese Makaken (Macaca fuscata). In Addition was determined first for all 3 Species Regression straight lines and the Cranial base length was used as a relation Measure. The Comparison of the Regression straight line showed no significant differences in the Increases of the regression straight Line. In Spite of spezies - specific Differences in the Dimensions of the nasal Cavities the nasal Cavities of the examined primates Grow postnatal obviously after a similar growth Pattern. The Results of this study carry model Character and deliver other Knowledge about the kraniofaziale Growth of the Primates. To what extent, e.g., the Form of the nasal Cavity with 3 Species or also the nasal mussels Influence on the postnatal craniofacial Growth of the Primates have, should be clarified by other Investigations.
