  • This paper aims to show the difference between various nickel alloys subject to their composition, here dental alloys based on nickel that are produced according to the DIN standard 13912 part 2 , and how they meet the requirements of the corrosionresistance and biocompatibility. The corrosionresistance was found with the help of immersionstests and potentiodynamic corrosion testing (PDC) measuring the breakthrough potentials. The biocompatibility was represented with the cytotoxicitytest. Beryllium-free alloys (Remanium CS, Wiron 99, Wiron NT, Vera Soft) were used and to some extent with a considerable amount of beryllium (Vera Bond V, test alloying 0246, test alloying 0249). Alloys with an increased beryllium amount are considerably more corrosion delicate. Because of this a high activation of nickel and beryllium occurs. These alloys show a significant stoppage of the cell growth (Vera Bond V and both test alloys) in the cytotoxicitytest. Alloys are just as corrosion delicate (Vera Soft, Vera Bond V) with a reduced amount of chrome or molybdenum. Wiron NT stood out through oxide in the immersiontests. The small test plates were heavier after the removal from the electrolyte than before storage. This oxide deposit was examined with the help of the EDX analysis. The content of chrome should be more than 20 m %, even better more than 25 m %. A molybdenum concentration has a good corrosion resistance with values between 9 and 11 m %. Furthermore alloying cer can be recommended. By the formation of ceroxid on the surface a high corrosion resistance is produced. The alloy Remanium CS (Dentauraum) achieved the best results, followed by Wiron 99 (Bego). Both alloys are proof of corrosion-resistant and biocompatible NEM alloys on the basis of nickel.
