- The objective of the study was to evaluate the effects of ketamine and propofol on intestinal microcirculation in rats during experimental endotoxaemia. Endotoxaemia causes decrease of MAP (mean arterial pressure) and induces leukocyte adherence within submucosal venules. TNF-a, IL-1ß, IL-6 and IL-10 levels were significantly elevated following endotoxin challenge. But neither the additional administration of ketamine nor propofol cause alterations within the microcirculation or changes in cytokine release during endotoxaemia.
