  • This study deals with the possibility to extend the measuring system sirognathograph. Former studies observed the lower incisor as their point of motion. Only mathematic calculation offered the possibility to study other point of motion. The present study shows a method to measure the motion of a point in the molar area directly. The further development of potential of measurement of the sirognathograph was one aim. To reach the aim, the miniaturizing of the used magnet was essential. The reduction of the magnet's volume leaded to less interference while using it in the molar area. In addition to that the improvement of the hardware and the creation of a new software was necessary. The comparison of the measuring data from the lower incisor with those of the lower molar area showed similarities, though the study uncovered characteristics depending on the location of the point of motion, which the sirognathograph recorded. The software allowed new ways of displaying the data. Especially the velocity analysis was very helpful in detecting unusual characteristics of the motion of the lower jaw.
